The Kid Icarus AR-chive

April 21, 2012 § 1 Comment

The other day I talked about a website created by fans for collecting augmented reality (AR) cards for Kid Icarus: Uprising.  Today I’m back to tell you that that site sucks, and instead you should check out this site. It’s basically a database of all of the known AR cards. It’s incomplete, but because only a fraction of all the AR cards have even been made available. What’s been figured out, however, is that every single AR card corresponds to an idol, (Uprising‘s equivalent of trophies from the Super Smash Bros. games) meaning the number order of AR cards can be deduced by the order in which idols are displayed in the game’s “vault.”

Every card listed in the archive is either uploaded as the American, European or Japanese version of the card, or hopefully a mixture or all three. And there’s also the possibility that none of the versions of a card have been uploaded, and in that case the card is not yet available on the site, likely due to it not being available elsewhere yet. So what’s the main difference between the American, European and Japanese versions of the cards? The language. Nothing more. You can scan any version of any card and the game will read it.

The site also has a built-in battle system. You can input the codes of two different AR cards, and then a screen with the two cards in the proper position will appear, so you can make them battle on your 3DS. It’s a lot of fun.

To close up, I do want to say that perhaps you shouldn’t go and scan all of the AR cards from the website. Collecting the cards yourself is a lot of fun, and using the database does feel a bit like a cheat. Regardless, it is a pretty awesome website.

P.S. Sorry for no Fan Art Friday this week, but don’t worry, it’ll be back!
